It is very obvious that a countless number of names come to one’s mind if anyone is asked to name some male scientists. But, this is not the case when it comes to female scientists. Someone in the crowd would cry, “Kalpana Chawla”. Another name mentioned from the past would be Madam Marie Curie, and after that everything goes surprisingly silent. Everyone is perplexed, but their brains- restless....trying to recall one more name...at least one. Someone with an awesome general knowledge would name a female employee of the R&D department of any leading tech-oriented companies....nothing more than that.
Unfortunate but yes, this is the truth of the history of female landmarks in the field of science. We have entered the 21st century and we call our world the “World of Women”. Isn’t it shockingly astonishing that this “World of Women” has no female scientists to look upon except just one or two.
But the situation has to change and it will change. In order to bring any revolution into view, the first step is “The Initiation Step” and the next and the most crucial is “The Cooperation Step”.
The Initiation has been done by the world known organization IEEE. IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists. And the WIE organization also welcomes those men whose technical interests are rooted in electrical and computer sciences, engineering, and related disciplines.
IEEE WIE
IEEE WIE Mission: The mission of IEEE WIE is to inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women worldwide.
IEEE WIE Vision: IEEE WIE envisions a vibrant community of IEEE women and men innovating the world of tomorrow.
In order to make sure that this revolution adopts a turbulent flow the only thing that is required on part of all the world’s engineers is the Cooperation.
Benefits of joining WIE:
WIE members can meet colleagues with similar interests in promoting women in engineering and technology and participate in activities that support the WIE mission.
WIE members receive the following benefits:
- Monthly WIE electronic newsletter which contains career information, reports on WIE and Affinity Group activities, IEEE news, and more;
- Access to the electronic WIE Membership Directory
- Opportunities to network, volunteer, and participate in local WIE activities.
- It is cost-free!!
